Our Organization

Our organization started as a dream for Kevin Mills, which quickly grew into a reality.

Kevin sustained a spinal cord injury in 2009, that through his world upside down. It left him lost and unable to participate in his favourite sports - climbing, free diving, and long-distance running. Finding recreation after injury fulfilled what he was missing in his life. Hand cycling has become an integral part of his life for both his physical and mental health. The dream to bike across Canada seemed like an impossible feat but became possible with the help of his best friend, Neuro-Recovery trainer, and biking buddy - NikkiD. Together they will take on the +7400km bike ride, coast to coast, across Canada.

But is there a route that’s accessible for a quadriplegic? Can it be done? Why can’t this be possible for everyone and anyone who wants to try?

And that’s when Pedaling Possibilities was created.

We are setting out not only to raise awareness of the importance of recreational activity in the disabled community but to identify an accessible biking route across Canada that can be used by anyone of any ability.  We will be publishing our journey along the way to share ALL aspects of our experience including challenges, accessibility, safety, and every other important detail. We hope that this will allow others to be confident, and feel safe to bike across Canada with a disability.

Canada is a beautiful country, everyone deserves the chance to see it.  Your support goes directly to funding the initial ride that begins in May of 2023 which will identify an accessible route that will be shared with all who may wish to explore regardless of ability. We hope you all will be a part of this journey by either following along on social media or reaching out to meet up for a leg of the trip. Help us make this dream POSSIBLE.

The inspiration behind the logo

The logo is a reflection of Kevin Mills, and his goal to ride his bike across the country of Canada. The colours were chosen based on health in green, and trust and accessibility reflected in blue. Others are putting trust in us to create an accessible route across the country while being as transparent as possible with the challenges, obstacles, and hurdles faced during the development of the route. We hope to showcase the importance of staying active after any injury to improve all aspects of health - mental, emotional, and physical to show that something as simple as movement can greatly improve the overall quality of life.

The images used in the logo are in NO WAY indicative that you have to fit a specific mould to participate, support, or join this journey. This goal was created to inspire and motivate others of ANY physical ability, in ANY part of the world to get active in ANY form possible. This is just the one way both Kevin and NikkiD enjoy being active. So find your mode of movement that makes YOU feel good, and get moving!
